Webinar Recording: Revolution of the Procurement Department with DOYMA: Transformation of Procurement in Mid-Market - Part 1

We increasingly observe rising regulatory requirements, more complex supply chains, and personnel shortages in mid-market procurement departments. These challenges leave no time for strategic development of procurement. However, a transformation and strategic repositioning can unlock untapped potential and establish the procurement organization as a critical value driver for the company.

In our live webinar "Revolution of the Procurement Department with DOYMA: Transformation of Procurement in Mid-Market - Part 1" with Pascal Linde, Head of Procurement & Disposition, and Karoline Rückerl, Product Expert at Tacto, we show you how to revolutionize your procurement department and reposition it strategically within your organization.

DOYMA's procurement department is undergoing comprehensive transformation to establish procurement as a strategic value driver for the company. In collaboration with Tacto, DOYMA's procurement evolved from a purely operational function to a strategic potential department.

Procurement plays a central role at DOYMA, as up to 70% of total costs arise from procurement of goods and services. Efficient procurement processes increase competitiveness, ensure product quality and sustainability, and foster innovation.

Procurement is responsible for ensuring company liquidity, profitability, and risk management. Through proactive measures, market changes can be anticipated and price increases countered. Additionally, maintaining supplier relationships and evaluating new markets and technologies contributes to long-term stability.

DOYMA Before Transformation

Before transformation, procurement at DOYMA was heavily operational and often reactive. The focus was primarily on day-to-day business, causing strategic initiatives to be neglected. Company strategy was dominated by sales, while procurement pursued only derived objectives. Lack of transparency and inefficient processes hindered effective inquiries and supplier management. There was no inquiry tool, and communication occurred mainly via email, leading to isolated information and non-transparent communication.

Organizational Development and Transformation

The transformation of procurement at DOYMA involves evolving from operational procurement to value management. This process includes:

  • Procurement: Reducing unit costs and efficiently structuring operational procurement.
  • Materials Management: Reducing ongoing costs through consolidation and shifting, as well as actively managing the supplier base.
  • Strategic Procurement: Understanding and mitigating risks and promoting supplier development through overarching commodity strategies.
  • Value Management: Preventing cost creation through intelligent market insights and software-enabled alert functions.

The transformation began with defining disposition and strategic procurement methods to improve efficiency. Transparent inquiry management was introduced to enhance traceability and efficiency. Through active inquiries and an improved negotiating position with suppliers, efficiency was further increased.

DOYMA After Transformation

After transformation, procurement at DOYMA has taken on a central role in the organization and has become a core pillar, part of the company's top objectives. The procurement department has gained presence and significance, and now proactively participates in defining company objectives. New requirements for ESG, compliance, and regulatory provisions can now be met without requiring additional personnel capacity. The successes and potential analyses conducted with Tacto convinced management and led to strong internal support and recognition of cost savings effects.

Overarching Objectives and Concrete Cost Savings Goals

Through collaboration with Tacto and further development of strategic procurement, concrete goals were defined and costs were saved. These include:

  • Increasing inquiry intensity
  • Reducing procurement volume by 2.5%
  • Building alternative suppliers
  • Centralizing procurement for the entire holding
  • Reducing inventory by 12%
  • Digital and centralized management of supplier documentation

DOYMA and Tacto invite you to a further webinar series in which concrete use cases and practical implementation of the described strategies will be presented.
