Webinar Recording: EU CBAM Update: Tightening of Transparency and Due Diligence Obligations

The EU Commission has recently tightened the requirements for CBAM reporting. From August 1, 2024, CBAM-liable parties must determine and report actual emissions for each goods import. This development presents many companies with new challenges in efficient implementation.

In our exclusive live webinar "EU CBAM Update: Tightening of Transparency and Reasonable Efforts Obligations - STAUFF's Approach to Meeting New Requirements" with Jörg Maserke, Head of Procurement at STAUFF, and Kendra Benkendorf, CBAM Expert at Tacto, we explain how you can efficiently integrate these new regulations into your supply chain strategy.

CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is an EU instrument for pricing CO2 emissions on imports of certain goods. It aims to prevent carbon leakage and create a level playing field for EU companies and their global competitors.

Requirements

The updated requirements include:

1. Obligation to determine and report actual emissions for each goods import from August 1, 2024.

2. Evidence of all reasonable efforts to collect data from suppliers or manufacturers if actual emissions data cannot be reported.

3. Documentation of unsuccessful efforts in the CBAM transition register.

Many medium-sized companies face the challenge of implementing these complex requirements. If affected companies do not prepare, serious consequences threaten: products could no longer be imported, penalties for non-compliance with reporting obligations loom, and competitiveness could be weakened by the necessary build-up of alternative suppliers.

Concrete Applications and Use Cases of REACH, SVHC, and PFAS in Procurement

1. Testing for applicability: Tacto supports the identification of affected products and suppliers.

2. Supplier inquiry and training: Automated inquiry of relevant data from suppliers and support with correct implementation.

3. Creation of the CBAM report: Tacto provides assistance in creating the CBAM report in XML format.

4. Reporting: Support with registration in the CBAM transition register and uploading of the completed report.

5. Forecast of CO2 costs: Estimation of certificate costs to be paid from 2026 onward based on imports.

Outlook

Tacto offers a future-oriented solution for integrating CBAM into the supply chain strategy of medium-sized companies. By using a centralized platform, companies can not only increase their efficiency and minimize compliance risks, but also respond flexibly to future regulatory changes. The solution enables continuous optimization of all relevant processes while concentrating on core competencies.
