Initial Situation and Challenges
For Torsten Keller, Head of Procurement at ALBG, 2022 marked a turning point for future sourcing. The impacts of the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine created significant challenges in the procurement market that did not leave the recycling machinery manufacturer unaffected. Procurement markets were characterized by uncertainty due to the unavailability or limited availability of many items, as well as supply chain disruptions. Particularly problematic for ALBG were the sharp price fluctuations for certain products and raw materials.
"Every day we received price increases from suppliers, and it seemed difficult to find an anchor that would protect us from sudden cost spikes. In these turbulent times, we looked for help to stay in control and cushion the impact on our company." - Torsten Keller, Head of Procurement
Overall, the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine underscored for Mr. Keller the need to adapt procurement processes to become more resilient and better prepared for unforeseen events. The ability to react quickly to changes in global markets and minimize risks became the top priority. Mr. Keller set out to find the right tool to support him on the path to resilient procurement and serve as an anchor in these turbulent times. It was particularly important to find a mid-market-friendly solution that required minimal IT resources.
The Implementation Process
After a thorough market review, ALBG chose Tacto as its partner for building future-proof procurement. Tacto's tailored approach for mid-market companies convinced both Mr. Keller and the executive team.
The contract was signed at the end of January 2023, and data upload began in early February 2023. It took the IT department less than two days to create the required SQL scripts. Tacto provided exactly the CSV files needed (8 files total), and the scripts were adapted by the IT department within 2 days.
An additional advantage was the seamless integration of the existing ERP system AMS with Tacto. The CSV files could be effortlessly extracted from the ERP system and provided to Tacto, making the entire process even more efficient.
Compared to other software providers that often require months for implementation, Tacto impressed with its agile and professional approach. The rapid execution and smooth collaboration made the software solution an undeniably reliable and efficient partner for ALBG. Communication throughout the implementation was also very structured.
"This seamless process was extremely fast and was undoubtedly an example of efficient collaboration." - Matthias Stier
Tacto as THE Solution
Thanks to the Analytics module, ALBG gains the greatest value through the ability to focus more on strategic procurement. Data and information are presented in detail on an ABC-driven basis at the item, category, and supplier level, offering enormous potential. The rapid data preparation has significantly reduced preparation time for supplier meetings and made the entire process far more productive and efficient. This allows the team to focus more on the actual strategic aspects of procurement and make informed decisions.
Additionally, ALBG now has the ability to identify price outliers early and track price developments. These real-time insights into price trends and stability are invaluable, enabling better responses to market fluctuations and more strategic price negotiations with suppliers.
Overall, the integration of the Analytics module has represented significant progress. It enables the company to make data-driven, informed decisions, optimize the procurement process, and simultaneously keep an eye on long-term strategic goals.

Future Outlook with Tacto
"We see Tacto as a long-term partner and companion for the future. Many more challenges will come our way, such as supply chain due diligence legislation. However, we're confident that we've found a partner who supports us through all these upcoming tasks and approaches things pragmatically together with us. We want to grow with the system and through the system, and together unlock the potential in our procurement." - Torsten Keller
