For nearly 90 years, SCHWING Stetter has been a leader in concrete and concrete processing. As a global leader in concrete construction machinery, SCHWING Stetter offers the full spectrum of ready-mix concrete technology — from production and transport to concrete placement and recycling. Additionally, SCHWING Stetter develops pump systems for industrial and environmental applications as a second business pillar. SCHWING Stetter operates globally with manufacturing facilities in the USA, Brazil, India, Austria, Serbia, and Germany, and has experienced strong growth in recent years.

" It became clear that our suppliers' knowledge of CBAM was still at a very low level when they received the surveys. There is little awareness of the requirements. This is where the supplier training sessions are of great value. This is what truly makes Tacto unique as a CBAM solution provider." - Thomas Klatt, Central Procurement, SCHWING Stetter

Initial Situation and Challenges

‍SCHWING Stetter is subject to the CBAM regulation because the company has three locations in the EU — two in Germany and one in Austria — that import CBAM-relevant materials. These locations are legally independent entities but belong to the same corporate group, and each must submit quarterly reports to the authorities.

Specifically, SCHWING Stetter's CBAM relevance stems from approximately 25 suppliers in countries outside the EU that supply around 90 CBAM-relevant items classified by HS code.

The number of suppliers and items is expected to continue growing in the near future. Procurement will continue to source materials from third countries, with SCHWING Stetter's focus on China, Turkey, and India. Looking ahead, the EU will very likely expand the CBAM regulation to additional materials and product categories, such as plastic parts. In that case, SCHWING Stetter's exposure — currently dominated by iron and steel — would increase significantly in terms of tonnage.

Expected Effort Without a Software Solution

Before Tacto was engaged as a software tool to support CBAM, Thomas Klatt from Central Procurement at SCHWING Stetter analyzed how much effort company-wide CBAM compliance would require without tool support. The comprehensive analysis showed that without software support, a full-time employee working approximately 200 business days per year would be needed solely for CBAM implementation.

With Tacto's support, this effort is reduced to just 15 days per year for SCHWING Stetter. SCHWING Stetter has already successfully submitted six quarterly reports using Tacto and is already experiencing significant relief from the software.

" With Tacto's CBAM solution, we save a full FTE and approximately $110,000 per year." - Thomas Klatt, Central Procurement

The time savings of over 90% result from the optimization of various process steps that Tacto largely automates: determining applicability, supplier surveys, evaluation of purchasing documents, evaluation of emissions data, report generation, supplier training, planning for financial impacts, and providing information about current developments.

" It became clear that our suppliers' knowledge of CBAM was still at a very low level when they received the surveys. There is little awareness of the requirements. This is where the supplier training sessions are of great value. This is what truly makes Tacto unique as a CBAM solution provider." - Thomas Klatt, Central Procurement

With Tacto, supplier surveys for CBAM can be easily and automatically sent to the relevant suppliers at the click of a button and tracked. Purchasing documents and emissions data are automatically evaluated, converted into the required XML format for report submission, and enriched with default values. This way, SCHWING Stetter replaces manual processes with automated and scalable ones. Additionally, Tacto conducts training sessions with suppliers to inform them about the requirements and emphasize the importance of collaboration in this context.

" Another major benefit for us is the ability to calculate our Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through Tacto to determine the expected additional costs from CBAM at the material level. Since sourcing decisions are made with a long-term perspective, the results of these calculations are already factored into our planning." - Thomas Klatt, Central Procurement

SCHWING Stetter has already completed more than six supplier training sessions conducted by Tacto.

Synergies in Procurement

SCHWING Stetter uses Tacto not only for CBAM surveys but also to manage additional compliance requirements, such as NIS2.

Thanks to the interface with procurement, Tacto provides significant synergy effects that are leveraged strategically and will continue to be expanded together in the future.
